Sikander Movie Review : Salman Khan’s Eid Release – Hit or Miss?

Salman Khan’s much-awaited film Sikander was released on 30 March 2025, on the occasion of Eid. This marks Salman’s first collaboration with renowned director A.R. Murugadoss. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna in the lead role. With a massive budget of around ₹200 crore, Sikander is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s find out.

Story Overview

The movie revolves around Sanjay Rajkot, aka Sikander, a powerful and influential man from Rajkot, Gujarat. He marries a painter, Saishree, and their life takes a tragic turn when Sanjay has a heated confrontation with Arjun, the son of a corrupt minister, Rakesh Pradhan, during a flight. Arjun is seen blackmailing a female passenger, and Sanjay steps in to stop him. This incident puts Sanjay in direct conflict with the minister, leading to a series of dramatic events.

As a result of this enmity, Saishree is killed. Her organs are donated to three different individuals. In his grief, Sanjay embarks on a journey to find these recipients and help solve their problems, leading to a series of emotional and action-packed sequences.

Performance and Direction

Salman Khan stays true to his signature style, delivering high-energy action sequences and punch dialogues. However, his character lacks depth and freshness. His chemistry with Rashmika Mandanna, though promising, fails to leave a lasting impact due to a weak script.

Director A.R. Murugadoss, known for hits like Ghajini, focuses heavily on Salman’s star power, often compromising on a strong and engaging narrative. The screenplay feels predictable, which takes away from the emotional weight the story tries to carry.

Music & Technical Aspects

  • Music: The soundtrack by Pritam includes tracks like Zohra Jabeen and Bam Bam Bhole. While the songs are melodious, they fail to uplift the overall pace of the film.
  • Cinematography: Tirru’s cinematography enhances the film’s visual appeal with grand action sequences and stunning locations.
  • Editing: The film’s editing lacks tightness, making certain portions feel stretched.

Critical Reviews & Audience Reaction

Sikander received mixed to negative reviews from critics.

  • India Today’s Tushar Joshi rated it 2/5 stars, stating, “Sikander looks tired and a bit outdated. However, if you are a Salman Khan fan and enjoy his trademark style, it might be a one-time watch.”
  • Bollywood Hungama gave it 2.5/5 stars, mentioning that the movie attempts to convey a social message but fails due to inconsistent direction and weak storytelling.

Despite critical reviews, Salman’s loyal fanbase has turned up in large numbers, ensuring a strong initial box office collection.

Final Verdict: Should You Watch Sikander?

If you are a die-hard Salman Khan fan and love his larger-than-life action-packed roles, Sikander might be worth a one-time watch. However, for those looking for a fresh story with strong storytelling, it may fall short of expectations. The film delivers action, drama, and emotion but struggles due to a predictable narrative and lackluster execution.
